# Hardware FAQ

This page centralizes common NAS hardware questions, including drive selection, interface compatibility, buttons, operating environment, and model differences. For specific model specifications and maximum capacity, use the product page, purchase page, or information confirmed by official support as the final reference.

## Drives and Capacity

| Question | Handling or suggestion |
| --- | --- |
| Supported drive form factors | The supported drive form factors depend on the specific model. Common installation targets include 3.5-inch SATA drives, 2.5-inch SATA SSDs / HDDs, and M.2 SSDs. The actual number, location, and size that can be installed depend on the device structure and installation instructions. |
| Are 2.5-inch SSDs supported | When supported, they can be secured to the drive tray following the 2.5-inch drive installation procedure. Before installation, confirm that the interface, thickness, and mounting screws match. |
| Are M.2 SSDs supported | Models that support M.2 can install an M.2 SSD on the bottom or in the specified location, using the included thermal silicone pad and fixing screw. See [Install Drives](quick-start/install-drive). |
| Are SMR drives supported | SMR drives are not recommended. In long NAS write, rebuild, or RAID scenarios, SMR drives may show performance fluctuations. CMR / NAS-grade drives are recommended. |
| Are enterprise helium drives with PWDIS supported | Drives with PWDIS are not recommended. If a drive cannot power on or be detected because of PWDIS, replace the drive or contact the drive vendor to confirm a compatible handling method. |
| What is the maximum capacity per drive or for the whole device | The maximum capacity depends on the specific model, number of bays, drive specifications, and current system version. Before purchase or expansion, refer to the product specification page and hardware compatibility list. |
| Can U.2 / U.3 SSDs be used | Availability depends on the model interface, adapter cable, and power supply capability. Before confirmation in the compatibility list, they are not recommended as a formal storage solution. |

## Interfaces and Expansion

| Question | Handling or suggestion |
| --- | --- |
| Are USB4 and Thunderbolt compatible | Whether USB4 / Thunderbolt can be used depends on the specific model and peripheral. Before connecting high-speed peripherals, confirm the interface specifications, cable specifications, and peripheral power requirements. |
| How should I understand 10G, SFP+, and RJ45 | RJ45 is a common Ethernet cable interface; SFP+ is usually used for optical modules or DAC cables; 10G indicates the maximum link rate. Whether 10G is built in or expandable depends on the model. |
| What can be connected to the PCIe slot | PCIe expansion capability depends on the model, lanes, space, power supply, and system support. Before installing an expansion card, confirm the compatibility list or consult official support. |
| Are external GPUs supported | GPUs or external graphics cards are high-risk expansion scenarios affected by model, power, cooling, drivers, and system support. They are not recommended for formal use without official confirmation. |
| What devices can SD, TF, and USB ports connect | Front or external SD / TF / USB ports can be used to connect storage cards, USB flash drives, portable SSDs, and other external storage. Actual recognition depends on device format, power supply, and interface status. |

## Device Buttons and Display

| Question | Handling or suggestion |
| --- | --- |
| What does the LCD screen show | The front-panel LCD can be used to view the device IP, startup status, or some system prompts. The exact content depends on the current device and system version. |
| How to use the POWER button | The POWER button is used to power on or shut down. Before shutting down, confirm that no storage, backup, update, or repair task is running. |
| What does the COPY button do | The COPY button is usually used with external storage to perform quick copy tasks. Whether it is available, where it copies to, and how progress is displayed depend on the current system settings and page prompts. |
| What if indicators or LCD prompts are abnormal | First check the corresponding status in system notifications, `Settings - Storage`, and `Support - Logs`. If you cannot judge, record the prompt content, time, and recent operations, then contact official support. |

## Operating Environment and Maintenance

| Question | Handling or suggestion |
| --- | --- |
| Are UPS devices supported | UPS support depends on the device system, USB recognition, and UPS model. For high-availability environments, confirm UPS compatibility first. |
| What is the approximate power consumption | Power consumption depends on the model, number of drives, drive type, load, and peripherals. Use product specifications or actual measurements as the reference. |
| What is the approximate noise level | Noise is affected by fan speed, number of drives, drive type, ambient temperature, and load. Place the device in a well-ventilated location away from rest areas. |
| Can the fan be replaced | Fan specifications and replacement methods depend on the model. Replacing it yourself may affect cooling and warranty, so contact official support first. |

## Model Differences

| Question | Handling or suggestion |
| --- | --- |
| What are the differences between D4, D6, D6 Ultra, and D8 Ultra | Different models may vary in bay count, processor, memory, network interfaces, expansion capability, and maximum capacity. Refer to the current product specification page, not only old articles or old promotional images. |
| How to check memory type and ECC support | Memory type, capacity, and ECC support are determined by the specific model. Before purchase or expansion, consult the current specification page or contact official support. |
| What do CPU, GPU, and NPU differences affect | Processor, graphics, and NPU capabilities affect app operation, media processing, AI learning, and concurrent task performance. The actual experience also depends on drives, network, and system load. |

## Get Compatibility Information

For drives, SSDs, expansion cards, and peripherals, prioritize the hardware compatibility list. If they will be used for production data, RAID, long-term backup, or high-load scenarios, confirm compatibility before purchase.

If drives cannot be detected, arrays are abnormal, interfaces cannot connect, or the device runs abnormally, prepare the device model, system version, hardware model, slot location, abnormal prompt, and logs, then contact official support through [Contact Us](apps/support/contact).
